Heather joined Spirit of America in January 2023 as the Major Gifts Officer.

With nearly three decades of experience, she has served in leadership roles of local, national, and global nonprofits dedicated to environmental protection, historic preservation, children’s welfare, and human rights.

Heather is a respected advancement professional with experience in individual, corporate, and institutional philanthropy. Her expertise includes grant writing, development communications, board development, and campaign design and implementation.

Heather led national fundraising programs for the National Audubon Society and the Rainforest Foundation US. 

Heather is the founder/owner of Hanson Development Consulting, a fundraising consultancy launched in 2006.

In 2013, Heather was elected to serve on her local school board, where she served three terms before stepping down in 2022 after nine years of proud service to her community. 

Heather lives in Lynbrook, New York, with husband Kevin, their two children, and their beloved rescue dog Carver.
