Chief Development Officer
Shirley joined Spirit of America in June 2022 as the Chief Development Officer.
With nearly three decades of experience, she has served in leadership roles of national and regional non-profits, institutions of higher education, and political and social advocacy campaigns.
Shirley is a nationally renowned advancement professional with experience in public affairs, communications, marketing, and philanthropy. Her expertise includes comprehensive development program evaluation, design, and implementation; not-for-profit strategic planning; volunteer leadership engagement; grassroots planning; public affairs, lobbying, and the full spectrum of campaign design.
Shirley led national fundraising programs for the National Audubon Society, StudentsFirst, and Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries. She served as the Director of Major Gifts for The Salvation Army – Empire Division and most recently was the Director of Advancement for George Mason University.
Shirley is the founder/owner of Hamilton Hartman Consulting, a national consultancy launched in 2013. She is the former President of AFP-Hudson Mohawk and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
Shirley lives in Washington, DC and Ocean View, DE with her husband Paul and their two cats – Mali and Mochi.
