D. Scott Mann has spent his twenty-three year Army Special Forces Career involved in Foreign Internal Defense, Counter-insurgency, and Stability Missions all over the world.
Scott graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in Political Science. He has a Master’s Degree in Operational Art and Science from the US Air Force Air Command and Staff College.
Scott has served in the Special Operations Community for over 18 years and has been a Green Beret for over 15 years. During that time Scott spent over 10 years in 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he served in a variety of Foreign Internal Defense and combat deployments in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
In addition to commanding at several levels, Scott was a three-time select for Battalion Command. Additionally, Scott was an architect and original implementer of the Special Operations Village Stability and Afghan Local Police Program in Afghanistan. He authored the authoritative VSO methodology document known as VSO 101 in the SOCOM Donovan Report. Scott also wrote the only strategic narrative document to date, on VSO in Afghanistan for Small Wars Journal.
From 2010-2011 Scott singularly designed and implemented all four iterations of the renowned USSOCOM Joint SOF Academic Week which trained over 4,000 SOF and Afghan-bound personnel. This training was highlighted in Linda Robinson’s highly acclaimed book 100 Victories.
Scott’s specialties include complex stability operations, collaboration across organizational networks, and full-spectrum training in stability tradecraft. He currently advises Senior SOF Commanders in Afghanistan and the US and Federal Law Enforcement on bottom-up operations in outlying communities.
Since retirement, Scott founded and is the Chief Executive Officer of the Stability Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to brokering knowledge and connecting stability professionals on complex stability issues around the globe.
Scott is also a real-estate entrepreneur of a multi-million dollar portfolio and Founder/CEO of Patriot Families, A non-profit organization committed to helping military families and wounded veterans at a grass-roots level cope with the rigors of military deployments and family stress.
Scott lives in Riverview, Florida with his wife Monty and their children Cody, Cooper, and Brayden. He writes and designs content full-time as the Director of the Stability Institute, and currently serves as an advisory board member for Spirit of America.
