The civil war in Syria, roiling for more than five years, has, according to some estimates, cost well over 400,000 lives and displaced millions of Syrians. The war has spawned countless factions within Syria and drawn regional powers into the fighting. The chaos of the multifaceted conflict also facilitated the rise of terrorist organizations like the Islamic State, which now controls a wide territory in Syria.
In the midst of this convoluted regional scenario, US Army civil affairs teams in Turkey are working to provide much-needed relief to a Syrian population that is exhausted by a half decade of brutal fighting. Food and hygiene supplies are amongst the most pressing essentials for Syrian civilians. Meeting these needs not only alleviates pain and suffering, but reduces the possibility that an increasingly famished and desperate population turns to extremist groups for aid. Likewise, the relationships forged between US teams and their Syrian counterparts as they implement the project will be vital towards fostering long-term social stability and community resilience.
In order to support the mission of US troops in the region, assist the people of Syria, and contest the conditions where extremism thrives, SoA seeks to provide 70 boxes of relief supplies to be distributed in the Aleppo region through the Aleppo Stabilization Committee. Each box contains blankets, hygiene kits, vegetables, insect sprays, and first aid kits.
Help us accomplish this mission.
