At its peak, ISIS controlled vast swaths of territory across Syria. The terrorist organization’s brutal reign was marked by heinous governing methods, mass murder, and abuse of minority populations. Now, the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, a US-led campaign made up of 79 partners, is making a final push to dislodge ISIS from its final holdout in and around the town of Hajin in northeast Syria.
The general commanding US Special Operations in Syria recently stated, “Since their offensive operations began in the Middle Euphrates River Valley (MERV), our partners have made steady progress in their fight against ISIS. They have proven themselves as reliable, effective combat soldiers, and with their continued cooperation we will continue to support them as they free northeast Syria from the grip of ISIS.”
With the fight intensifying and ISIS unable to control territory as it once did, a flood of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have escaped the combat zone towards safer areas where US forces and their partners are operating. These families fled their homes with very little. They urgently require humanitarian assistance, starting with food and water. Beyond being a humanitarian and moral imperative, aiding displaced civilians fleeing the fighting is crucial to the region’s stability and security.
Working closely with US teams in Syria, SoA is seeking to provide enough food aid to support between 8,000 and 10,000 displaced civilians as they make their way from the fighting and towards camps in safer regions. Our goal is to raise enough funds for 1,650 family-support boxes of food aid.
Given the urgency of the situation–the lack of food and shelter, the bitter cold, and the trauma of war–your support could make a life-altering difference for a family in Syria. Help us reach our goal.
