H. Andrew Schwartz

Chief Communications Officer, CSIS

H. Andrew Schwartz was the chief communications officer at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and was responsible for directing the Center’s media relations, multimedia iDeas Lab, streaming and broadcasting, congressional relations, events, publications, website, social media, marketing, and other external relations matters. Schwartz wrote The Evening newsletter nightly; hosted the podcasts The Truth of the Matter, The Trade Guys, and The Impossible State; and cohosted the AI Policy Podcast. With CSIS trustee Bob Schieffer, he was the coauthor of Overload: Finding the Truth in Today’s Deluge of News (Rowman and Littlefield, 2016).

Prior to joining CSIS, Schwartz began his journalism career as one of the first employees of Fox News Channel. Schwartz became a producer for Fox News’ Special Report with Brit Hume and subsequently served as a White House producer for the network. As a print journalist, Schwartz wrote for the Washington Post; OffBeat: the definitive guide to New Orleans music; and various national newspapers and magazines. Early in his career, he served as a research assistant to former Carter domestic policy adviser Stuart E. Eizenstat at Powell, Goldstein, Frazer, and Murphy and as a legislative fellow in the offices of Senator J. Bennett Johnston (D-LA) and Representative Lindy Boggs (D-LA).

Schwartz held a BA in political science from Tulane University and an MA in broadcast journalism and public policy from the American University. He was an adjunct instructor at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Schwartz served on the Tulane University School of Liberal Arts Dean’s Advisory Council, on the Emeritus Board of Directors of the National Press Foundation, and on the Spirit of America Board of Advisors until his death in 2025.
