Spirit of America and US Special Operations soldiers in Somalia
Greetings,
Al Shabaab is a US-designated terrorist organization affiliated with Al Qaeda based in Somalia. They aim to establish a fundamentalist Islamic state in Somalia, which they hope will ultimately expand to encompass the whole Horn of Africa. Al Shabaab has executed scores of violent attacks throughout Somalia and the region; recently, al Shabaab has been targeting Somali police stations in an attempt to dissuade Somali citizens from feeling safe and protected by their police forces and local governments.
In the last nine months, a police station near Somalia’s capital city of Mogadishu has been attacked twice, leaving one officer dead and three wounded. After the second attack, a US Special Operations soldier deployed to Somalia identified to Spirit of America the need to build a 10-foot high wall around the police station. This will not only protect the police officers from al Shabaab attacks, but will also protect the innocent Somali citizens who are visiting the police station to receive services.
Spirit of America has implemented 22 projects this year to support the work of US Special Operations in Somalia. Only Spirit of America can provide this critical support to troops serving on the front lines in the fight against al Shabaab. With your assistance, we can keep the brave police officers of Somalia safe, help prevent al Shabaab from carrying out more attacks, and help US Special Operations Forces bring stability to the region.
Sincerely,
Nick Glasgow
