General Bryan Fenton Joins Spirit of America Board of Advisors
ARLINGTON, Va — Spirit of America, the nonprofit that mobilizes the American people and private philanthropy to support U.S. national security, today announced that retired U.S. Army Four-Star General Bryan P. Fenton has joined its Board of Advisors.
General Fenton most recently served as the 13th Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), where he led the global Special Operations of the U.S. Department of Defense. In that role, he commanded 70,000 Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Special Operations personnel operating in some of the world’s most complex and contested environments.
“General Fenton is an extraordinary entrepreneurial leader committed to security and America’s values — a perfect fit for the Spirit of America team,” said Jim Hake, founder and CEO of Spirit of America. “He has spent four decades confronting the most urgent security challenges facing the free world and has seen firsthand how Spirit of America enables our troops and diplomats to move faster and be more effective on the ground. His leadership and insight will increase our asymmetric impact to support those on the frontlines of freedom.”
Prior to leading USSOCOM, General Fenton was the Commander of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and, before that, served as the Senior Military Assistant (SMA) for two U.S. Secretaries of Defense. With 38 years of military service, General Fenton commanded at every level of Special Operations. He deployed multiple times to Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as numerous locations in the Middle East, South America, Europe, and Africa, and he served for over five years in the Indo-Pacific region.
“I am honored to join the Spirit of America team and work alongside these incredible, dedicated professionals. Every day, Spirit of America members are doing amazing work across the globe, and I consider myself blessed to join their ranks,” said General Bryan Fenton.
General Fenton currently serves as a board member for Duke University’s Fuqua Business School/Coach K Center on Leadership and Ethics (COLE) and previously served on the University of Notre Dame’s Monogram Club Board and the Armed Services Mutual Benefit Association (ASMBA) Insurance Board. General Fenton has received several prestigious awards, including the Moose Krause Service Award from the University of Notre Dame, the Eisenhower Award from Business Executives for National Security (BENS), and the Omar N. Bradley Spirit of Independence Award.
General Fenton graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 and was the U.S. Army Fellow at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., from 2009 to 2010. He holds a master’s degree from the U.S. Army Command and Staff College.
