Jordan has long been one of America’s strongest partners in the fight to counter violent extremism around the world. The country’s armed forces have fought alongside our men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it has been a key ally in the campaign to defeat the Islamic State. The country has also suffered deeply from terrorism. Just last year, violent attacks by ISIS-affiliated terrorists claimed the lives of security personnel in the cities of Fuhais and Salt.
To reinforce the cooperation between Jordan and the United States and emphasize the collaborative approach required to defeat these threats, Spirit of America is proud to sponsor the annually-held Amman Forum on Countering Violent Extremism. The event, organized in partnership with US Embassy-Jordan and hosted by the Jordan Military Center for Counter Terrorism and Extremism, convenes government officials, academics, and civil society and business leaders from Jordan and around the world to exchange knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned from collective decades of countering violent extremism.
The Forum synthesizes the work of these expert security practitioners and thought leaders in refining approaches to countering violent extremism throughout the Middle East. These lessons are then shared with other partner nations engaged in the fight against violent extremism, a group Jordan’s King Abdullah termed a “coalition of the determined.” Underscoring the value of the event, SoA CEO, Jim Hake, stated, “Strengthening the historical relationship between the United States and Jordan is crucial to continued progress against extremism. Opportunities such as this—a forum in which we openly exchange ideas and learn from one another—are one of our greatest weapons against this shared threat.”
