The brutal Syrian conflict has severely impacted the lives of countless children across the country. Children face a unique set of problems, even as their parents and communities struggle to rebuild, including a lack of access to education, recreation, and organized physical activity.
Sports and outdoor recreation are important as they promote a sense of pre-conflict normalcy and give children a chance to channel their energies in a positive way. Physical activity also stimulates growth, promotes teamwork, and leads to improved physical and emotional health – all of which are desperately needed in the wake of this long-running conflict which has killed hundreds of thousands of Syrians and laid waste to countless communities.
To help these children as they return to everyday life, a US Army team is working with Spirit of America and local partners to provide existing facilities around the city of Manbij with sporting equipment. This equipment will provide new opportunities and resources for local children to enjoy soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
Your generosity can help us facilitate greater opportunities for Syrian youth and support rebuilding efforts in war-torn Syria, while at the same time demonstrating to these vulnerable populations that our troops are there to help.
