Guyana is located on the northern coast of South America, bordering Suriname, Venezuela, and Brazil. It’s a developing nation with a largely coastal population, leaving the interior less populated and underdeveloped. Narcotics trafficking is at an all-time high in the country and extremist groups have sought refuge here, attracted to the country’s poorly monitored ports and borders, remote airstrips, weak security, and intricate river networks.
A US Army team is working in remote regions of Guyana to address vulnerabilities such as the lack of educational programs, an effort that will help prevent violent extremism. The team identified a local NGO in the strategic town of Corriverton named Family Awareness Consciousness and Togetherness (FACT), which provides education and afterschool programs for at-risk youth.
The FACT community school is used as a platform for educational activities, vocational training, and local government outreach meetings. Most importantly, the school is a safe space. Currently, the school is in need of education supplies such as books, pencils, and backpacks. With your help, we can assist the US team, the government of Guyana, and the FACT school as they continue to support the wellbeing of local leaders, citizens, and vulnerable youth. Having access to books and school supplies will enable young minds to achieve their dreams and improve their country.
