Stopping ISIS and saving lives
Greetings,
One of our main efforts at Spirit of America is helping end the barbarity and evil of ISIS. To that end, we have provided metal detectors (generously donated by Garrett Electronics), first aid equipment, and more to help Kurdish Peshmerga forces stop ISIS in northern Iraq. Our targeted assistance in response to needs identified by our troops is having an extraordinary impact.
Read below how your support helped the Peshmerga defeat ISIS, liberate the town of Sinjar and save lives.
One US partner in Iraq is Captain Dilgash. He is a Peshmerga commander who helped liberate Sinjar, a strategic town in northern Iraq. Captain Dilgash and his men used the metal detectors we provided to find roadside bombs that had been planted by ISIS.
Spirit of America’s Zack Bazzi, a US Army veteran, met with Captain Dilgash. Here is what he told Zack. Note: an IED is a roadside bomb or “Improvised Explosive Device.”
“I used your [SoA] equipment immediately in the Sinjar Operation. Your equipment helped us discover buried IEDs. It also helped us discover small explosive devices. The ropes that you provided helped us remove IEDs from long distances without casualties.”
Dilgash explained how SoA provided gear was used at a critical point to defeat ISIS in Sinjar: “At the Um-Shababit intersection there were many IEDs buried in the ground. We could not find the pressure plate [the detonating device]. I searched with your equipment and discovered five IEDs with lots of explosives. If we did not have your equipment, probably 20 Peshmerga would have lost their lives, if not more.”
Your support is having a very real impact in the world’s toughest places. Our deployed men and women, and their local partners are dealing with big problems. You are making them safer and more successful in this difficult work.
Thank you for being part of our team.
