Tyson Voelkel Joins Spirit of America Board of Directors

Voelkel is President and CEO of the Texas A&M Foundation and Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve

ARLINGTON, VA – Spirit of America, a nonprofit organization that harnesses the power of the American people to support America’s national security, today announced that Tyson Voelkel has joined its Board of Directors.

Voelkel currently serves as president and CEO of the Texas A&M Foundation and as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He joins Spirit of America during a period of strategic growth, bringing extensive experience in service, mission-driven leadership, and philanthropic innovation.

“I have known Tyson for many years. Tyson’s accomplishments in business and philanthropy are impressive. But more than his accomplishments, it’s the type of person that he is that makes me most excited to welcome him to the Spirit of America team,” said Jim Hake, Spirit of America Founder and CEO. “I’m inspired by his lifelong commitment to service, the values he shares with Spirit of America, and his understanding that patriotism is about the actions you take to defend our freedom.”

At the Texas A&M Foundation, Voelkel led the largest higher education capital campaign in Texas history. Under his leadership, the Foundation’s unprecedented growth has directly impacted over 12,000 students annually through scholarships and created opportunities for countless more by funding hundreds of programs and initiatives.

Voelkel served as a US Army infantry officer, undertaking distinguished leadership roles during peacetime and combat. His military service spanned Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. Twice serving as a company commander in combat with the 82nd Airborne Division, he earned two Bronze Stars in Iraq, the Department of the Army MacArthur Leadership Award, and the Army Ranger and Airborne Qualification Badges. His military career also afforded him the honor of teaching leadership and ethics at the US Military Academy at West Point.

“True patriotism is not just a belief — it’s action. Spirit of America stands at the frontlines of freedom, uniting Americans in service to those who defend it,” said Tyson Voelkel. “Together, we strengthen national security, uplift those in need, and prove that the spirit of our nation is measured by the support we give to those who protect its precious values and the enduring principles of freedom.”
