Georgia, a former Soviet republic located on the crossroads of Europe and Asia, has been a staunch ally of the United States since the end of the Cold War. It contributed troops to the operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan, with its contribution to the latter being the highest per-capita commitment of troops of any International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) member.
As a result of those missions, some 19 Georgian troops lost limbs in combat. Training dedicated Georgian medical staff in rehabilitation skills, the US civil affairs team in the country is working to improve treatment for these brave soldiers as they recover from their wounds. In addition to improving the wellbeing of the wounded veterans, this program also serves to strengthen person-to-person relations between Georgia and the United States.
However, the Georgian doctors and therapists lack a simple yet critical piece of equipment: scrubs. Without this basic apparel, hygiene standards and team cohesion suffer. The local care providers have bought their own on the local economy, but this is a very expensive undertaking given their relatively low salaries.
With your help, Spirit of America can provide each of the 17 Georgian doctors and therapists with 2 sets of scrubs. This will improve hygiene and morale, and it will help demonstrate the United States’ resolve to stand by one of its loyal allies during a challenging time.
