Urgent need: Spirit of America’s immediate response to the attack on US Army Base in Somalia
On Monday (September 30) a US military base in Somalia was attacked by al Shabaab (news reports here and here). Al Shabaab militants attacked with a car bomb followed by ground forces in an attempt to breach and storm the US base. The attack was successfully repelled due to the actions of US Forces, along with Somali and Ugandan partner forces.
Our Somali and African Union partners often serve as the first line of defense against attacks and have fought alongside US Forces on many occasions, oftentimes suffering casualties. Unfortunately, our partners lack many of the basic essential supplies. US Special Forces deployed to the US military base near Mogadishu identified to Spirit of America the immediate need for individual first aid kits, combat life-saver bags, and medical litters to treat and evacuate casualties sustained during these engagements.
The attacks occurred one week ago, and Spirit of America is responding in real-time. Help us continue to provide fast and flexible responses to needs identified by US servicemembers abroad by supporting our Rapid Response Fund.
Sincerely,
Nick Glasgow
