How we’re helping Afghans fleeing the Taliban

Greetings,

It’s been one week since Spirit of America launched our Afghanistan Emergency Fund. Our entire team is focused on helping Afghans being evacuated by the United States. This includes frontline interpreters and other vulnerable groups, as well as their families, who risked their lives serving with US troops in Afghanistan.

Right now, we have team members on the ground in the Gulf region, Central Asia, and Europe, working side by side with the US military and providing humanitarian aid in real-time. More Spirit of America personnel are on the way.

WHAT WE’RE DOING

Afghans are arriving with only the clothes they are wearing. We have provided food, clothes for children and adults, baby formula, diapers, hygiene supplies, children’s books and toys, and smartphone chargers (to enable communication with families and access to important legal documents on their phones).

We are also providing temporary housing for evacuees, and in Tajikistan, we are funding the renovation of an Afghan refugee community center.

WHAT’S NEXT

Spirit of America has provided assistance to roughly 14,000 Afghan and American evacuees, and we are committed to helping thousands more in the weeks to come. Yesterday we purchased and provided 10,000 hygiene kits within 24 hours of when the need was identified to us. The need for emergency assistance will increase as military and charter flights continue to evacuate vulnerable Afghans to safety.

I couldn’t be more proud of our team. They are on the case 24/7 — meeting with, and fielding calls from, our US partners who need Spirit of America support and from organizations and individuals who want to help.

Many of you have donated to our Afghanistan Emergency Fund. Thank you. If you haven’t, please give now.
