Dear supporters, I just got back from Ukraine with Chris Clary, SoA’s Europe project manager. While tensions are rising in the country as Russian-backed fighters launch a new wave of attacks, I’m also happy to report some good news. Army FM, the radio station we developed in collaboration with the US Embassy and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense to counter Russian propaganda, has taken off. As we’ve shared before, the station, built for Ukrainian soldiers fighting to preserve their country’s independence, provides an alternative source of information to the morale-crushing Russian narrative that dominates the airwaves. When we launched Army FM last March, we funded three initial transmitters, employing a venture capital-style approach to validate the idea before taking it to scale. In the months that followed, the station became such a success that the Ukrainian government allocated funds in its budget to expand the network. NPR did a story about Army FM last spring. This week, Army FM will begin broadcasting in its fifteenth city! And, efforts are underway to expand throughout the rest of Ukraine as well.
