The Coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 continues to spread throughout the world, including in the Balkan country of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Due to the recent history of war and lack of economic development, Bosnia’s medical infrastructure is completely underdeveloped and overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic and medical supplies are running low. The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) have been mobilized to remain on-station at official Border Crossing Points and support civilians nationwide, including within regions where anti-western politics typically limit AFBiH activity.

These AFBiH units have little-to-no personal protective equipment (PPE) against COVID-19 despite their high risk of exposure. The U.S. Army Special Operations Forces team deployed in Bosnia identified the need to Spirit of America to supply PPE for their Bosnian counterparts; this will allow the BiH soldiers to interact, alongside the U.S. Army, with communities of every ethnicity and help the hospitals and local nationals respond to the pandemic – limiting the spread of COVID-19 throughout Bosnia and the Balkans. By partnering with local BiH business owners and entrepreneurs, the U.S. Army can have supplies produced from within the country’s borders.

With your help, Spirit of America and the Army Special Operations Forces team will be able to demonstrate American partnership and care by providing life-saving PPE to the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to the most vulnerable citizens in Bosnia.
