Greetings, Last month, US soldiers deployed to Cameroon and Spirit of America finished building a primary school in a rural northern Cameroon village. The soldiers identified to Spirit of America the need to rebuild a dilapidated primary school located within a mile of the US Airbase, as part of their larger mission to improve relationships with the local community, in turn keeping the US troops deployed there safer.

The US soldiers identified to Spirit of America the need for tin roofing, lumber, chalkboards, and desks. For $2,303 Spirit of America was able to fill the gap and ensure that the team was able to successfully finish the construction project. In communities where relationships matter, seeing this project through was critical for the US soldiers.

Spirit of America’s assistance also coincided with the beginning of the new school year. The school’s headmaster said he saw a staggering increase in over 150 new student registrations this year alone, which he attributed solely to the construction project. As a result, the Garoua 1 Urban Council matched the project by constructing an additional full-size school building. This bilateral initiative enhanced the education system in the area, allowed over 150 children to go back to school, improved relations between the US Army and the local community, and ensured better futures for the youth of Gofame and the surrounding villages.
