Rapid relief for displaced families in Syria

In recent weeks, escalating tension and clashes between Kurdish forces and the Syrian government displaced over 150,000 civilians in and around Aleppo. Thousands of vulnerable families fled their homes with little warning, arriving at crowded shelters with few belongings in cold and wet winter weather.

As the humanitarian crisis unfolded, Spirit of America connected with the U.S. Army Civil Affairs team and local partners and authorities on the ground to provide essential, rapid relief to the hardest hit communities.

Within days, we mobilized an emergency response plan to deliver over $100,000 in lifesaving aid, including 1,000 winter jackets and pairs of gloves, hygiene kits, 3,600 food baskets, and 400 blankets. Our team and partners worked quickly in Erbil, Iraq, to pack and load these items, which were then airlifted by our U.S. military partners directly to where aid was needed most.

“In the face of urgency, Spirit of America played a vital role in closing the most critical gaps… But the crisis is far from over,” said Malik Hanna, head of Syriac Cross. “Emergency relief protected them in the moment. Continued support is what protects their future.”

Delivering international aid in Syria is exceptionally difficult due to sanctions, lack of security, and limited access. But Spirit of America’s relationship with the U.S. military and local partners allows us to reach places that are often inaccessible to support those in dire need and to help stabilize areas affected by conflict.

Providing timely support for displaced families helps prevent a humanitarian crisis like this from escalating into broader instability. Delivering rapid relief reduces tension and unrest, reinforces trust in local leaders, and supports U.S. military operations in sensitive regions.

We are proud to support the people of Syria, who have been living through conflict for over 15 years. By acting quickly and working through partners who know their communities best, Spirit of America is helping provide dignity for displaced people in the region, and stabilizing lives and neighborhoods in one of the world’s most challenging environments. Our work here is a reminder that targeted and rapid assistance can make a meaningful difference when people need help the most.
