Our third planeload of assistance for Ukraine

Our third and most recent shipment of lifesaving assistance made it to the front lines in southern and eastern Ukraine. The 49.2 tons of aid included items such as food supplies, individual first aid kits, headlamps, 2,250 bulletproof vests, 1,905 ballistic helmets, and 1,074 pairs of combat boots donated by Rocky Brands.

Two members of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Force (TDF) are outfitted with Spirit of America-provided bulletproof vests and ready-to-eat meals before deploying to the front lines.

Pallets containing eight tons of Spirit of America-provided lifesaving assistance are unloaded in Ukraine. The supplies were distributed to members of the TDF who were headed to the front lines that day.

Spirit of America’s Europe Regional Director, Colleen Denny, and Regional Program Manager, Matt Dimmick, traveled to Ukraine to assist with part of the distribution. Our team delivered eight tons of helmets and bulletproof vests to nearly 1,000 civilian volunteers who were heading to the front lines that day.

During their time in Ukraine, Colleen and Matt had the opportunity to meet with Brigadier General Serhii Sobko, the Chief of Staff for Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Force (TDF). The TDF is made up of more than 100,000 civilian volunteers, coming together to defend their freedom and stand up to Russian aggression. General Sobko’s valuable input will help us tailor our next shipment to best meet the shifting needs of the Ukrainian forces.

Brigadier General Sobko, Chief of Staff for Ukraine’s TDF, provides valuable input to our team to help us better meet the ever-changing needs of Ukraine’s defenders.

Since Russia launched its war in February, Spirit of America has delivered more than 115 tons, $15 million worth, of assistance directly to Ukrainian soldiers and civilian volunteers.

“Ukraine’s courageous and brave civilian military is fighting for their country’s very existence, often without the equipment and supplies they need. Spirit of America – funded through the incredible generosity of our donors, large and small – is helping the citizen-soldiers of the Territory Defense Forces swap their skateboard pads and bike helmets for bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets. It is an honor to be working so closely with our partners and to play a part in defending freedom and democracy.” – Jim Hake, Spirit of America CEO
