Have an old accordion in the attic? A used bassoon in the basement? Your high school clarinet in the closet?
Spirit of America is currently accepting instrument donations in support of our Band Together project in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
To bring together children and communities divided by ethnic lines, Spirit of America has partnered with NATO Headquarters Sarajevo and the Armed Forces Band of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Spirit of America will provide musical instruments to students at eight schools around Bosnia and Herzegovina, and members of the Armed Forces Band of Bosnia and Herzegovina will mentor the students through workshops and classes. The project will culminate in a joint “unity concert” with the students and their families.
But first we need your help — and your old instruments.
From trumpets to guitars to accordions (huge in Balkan culture!), we’ll take what you can give. Donate an instrument.
We are also accepting financial contributions. Monetary donations will go toward purchasing instruments and equipment for the music program, as well as helping to fund the unity concert. Support this project.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s citizens are split into three major ethnicities, and 20 years after a three-year conflict that killed more than 100,000, tensions among the three groups remain high. With your help, we will use the universal language of music to unite these ethnic groups and heal old wounds.
