While the Philippine island of Sulu is indeed a tropical paradise, it is also the scene of a lengthy battle against some of the world’s most dangerous militants. An ISIS affiliate, the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), most recently known for the attack on Marawi City, has long had a heavy presence that spans the entire length of the island. They are notorious for kidnapping for ransom and for attacks on civilians and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Since being pushed out of Marawi, ASG attacks have become more frequent, flooding the Camp Teodulfo Bautista Hospital with AFP and civilian casualties and quickly depleting their supply of lifesaving necessities.
Advising and assisting the AFP in the fight against the violent extremism plaguing the nation, US military representatives in the region relayed this need to Spirit of America. Working with the hospital staff, the team identified a number of medical supplies and medications that are crucial to treating the flow of casualties. These supplies and medicines include antibiotics to help prevent infections from battle wounds, bandages and gauze to treat wounds, and IV provisions.
Since its opening, the Camp Teodulfo Bautista Hospital has become a beacon of hope and a standing refuge for the soldiers on the frontlines of the fight against terrorism in the Philippines. With your generous support, we can equip the hospital and medical providers with the supplies and medications needed to save lives. Your donation will also reinforce the US commitment to the AFP and act as a testimony to the enduring partnership between our two nations.
