The Coronavirus has changed our world. At home, our economy is reeling and our loved ones are at risk. For the first time in a generation, the daily lives of all Americans have been impacted by a single event. Our friends and allies across the globe have been even harder hit.

Iraqi Kurdistan is dangerously vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic. Already strained by 17 years of near-continuous conflict, their healthcare system is in danger of being overwhelmed. This problem is made worse in that they share a porous border with Iran, a country experiencing one of the most severe outbreaks of the virus globally. All of this is occurring simultaneously to ongoing regional conflicts and the continued fight against ISIS. Peshmerga partners work and fight alongside thousands of US soldiers, Marines, airmen, and sailors deployed in ongoing operations against ISIS and other violent extremist actors in the region.

Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs soldiers and medical personnel are being mobilized to support the Kurdistan Region’s COVID-19 response. These soldiers and medical personnel are in desperate need of protective equipment and medical supplies that will enable them to effectively respond to the pandemic.

Spirit of America is providing desperately needed personal protective equipment such as masks, respirators, goggles, and clothing, along with medical supplies such as hand sanitizer and disinfectant to the Ministry of Peshmerga to support the COVID-19 response efforts in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
