Your Impact

With the help of our donors, Spirit of America raised $31,214 to bring medical equipment to health centers that treat tens of thousands of patients, running water to villages, and introduce STEM and journalism programs to high school students in Serbia. By doing so, we helped strengthen the US-Moldovan partnership and limit malign Kremlin influence in the strategically important Black Sea region.

Moldova, a Black Sea country with a population of 3.5 million, is trapped between a new pro-West orientation and its pro-Russian past. Formerly a part of the Soviet Union, Moldova gained independence in 1991. However, the Kremlin still keeps a force of approximately 1,500 troops permanently stationed in the country under the guise of a peacekeeping mission. In November 2020 Moldova elected its first female and first Western-leaning president since its independence who ran on a platform of ending entrenched corruption and improving ties with the European Union.

Although Moldova has strengthened ties with Europe in recent years, it continues to struggle with significant challenges to its stability and prosperity, including corruption at the highest levels and malign Russian influence. Moldova is the poorest country in Europe, and rural areas suffer significantly; these communities need help and attention that the Moldovan government is unable to provide. Their needs include new water wells to replace crumbling infrastructure, new medical equipment to improve healthcare, and improved facilities and programs to benefit local youth.

Spirit of America is partnering with the Civil-Military Support Element and the US Embassy in Chisinau to bring a campaign of targeted assistance to rural communities in Moldova. These projects will have an immediate and tangible impact on thousands of Moldovans, and will demonstrate the value of partnering with the West.

With your support, Spirit of America will be able to provide crucial assistance that greatly improves the lives of Moldovans. Combined with the efforts of the US Embassy, we will bring medical equipment to health centers that treat tens of thousands of patients, running water to villages, and introduce STEM and journalism programs to high school students. By doing so, we will strengthen the US-Moldovan partnership and limit malign Kremlin influence in the strategically important Black Sea region.
