Last month, U.S. Africa Command led Exercise Flintlock, the premier annual special operations training exercise across Africa. For the first time, part of the exercise took place in Libya, a strategically important country at the center of Mediterranean migration routes, global energy supply lines, and transnational terrorist networks.
Libya holds vast oil and gas reserves and significant potential for economic growth and commercial investment. But years of political division and external pressures have prevented the emergence of a unified government with which the U.S. can most effectively partner to support regional peace and stability.
That’s why Spirit of America has made supporting U.S. military relationship with Libya a priority. Working to complement the efforts of our troops and diplomats, we are helping strengthen Libyan security partners while reinforcing the value of American partnership and American-supported unity.
Recently, Spirit of America provided 85 first aid kit carrying cases to a Libyan unit based on a gap identified by U.S. military partners. While the unit already had essential medical supplies, including bandages, tourniquets, and gauze, they lacked standardized carrying cases for use in training and operations.

The solution was simple, but the impact was significant. Standardized kits improve readiness by ensuring every soldier knows exactly where to find lifesaving supplies during emergencies. The U.S. military understands from decades of experience that consistency and familiarity in combat medicine can save lives and limbs.
The supplies also improved the unit’s ability to train with U.S. forces in exercises, such as Flintlock, increasing interoperability and strengthening professional relationships that contribute to long-term cooperation. In Libya, those tactical gains carry broader strategic importance.
One of our U.S. Army partners explained that even modest American investments in Libya’s security and stability help support the country’s path toward unity while creating conditions for future economic and commercial opportunities. Just as importantly, these efforts demonstrate that the United States is a reliable and committed partner.
Through targeted, practical support, Spirit of America and our supporters are helping U.S. troops strengthen critical partnerships and advance stability in one of the Africa’s most consequential countries.
