The Khmer Islam people of Cambodia are one of the most vulnerable populations in South East Asia. Isolated due to their Muslim faith, they have been subject to persecution for centuries. Historically, they have been persecuted by the Cambodian government and, more recently, neglected by many of the international organizations that provide aid to the region.

Khmer Islam communities are geographically and socially isolated from the capital, Phnom Penh. This segregation has resulted in weak governance and poor living conditions for the majority of their population. In recent assessments, the US team performed numerous interviews with local leaders to determine key issues facing these vulnerable communities. Their remote villages are far from even the most basic medical facilities. A lack of basic medical care has been identified as the most critical weakness amongst these communities.

Over the past two months, the US team has established enough trust within the local community to be able to conduct first aid and medical first responder training. The ultimate goal is for at least one member of each community to attend the training. Even just one qualified individual in each village would be of tremendous benefit to the entire community. It will allow them to respond immediately to medical emergencies and provide basic care until patients can be transported to distant medical clinics.

Your contributions will be used to provide crucial logistical assistance and to purchase medical supplies for training. The support allows selected individuals to travel from their remote villages to medical training events. 100% of your donation will go directly to helping educate Khmer Islam first responders, ultimately delivering critical medical care to rural villages. The successful execution of this project will foster a healthier, safer, and more prosperous future for vulnerable populations in Cambodia.
