The Cham people of Cambodia have a unique language, culture, and history. Their language and culture are passed from generation to generation, but the traditional script and tradition of literacy are at risk of disappearing, particularly after being suppressed during the period of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge when hundreds of thousands of Cambodians were murdered. Sponsored by the US Embassy, the Cham Heritage Expansion Program aims at recovering Cham literacy and has strong component of gender equality in recruiting and training teachers, which helps counter outdated notions about the place of women in schools and gives them equal standing to men, both as students and as teachers.

This program has grown to nearly 1,600 students since its inception in 2012. Your support will allow us to provide new teaching materials to students and teachers in remote areas who do not yet have this program. 100% of your donation will go directly to helping educate boys and girls who want to learn and preserve their unique language and heritage.
